Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area while Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving a large unauthorized gathering of a crowd of several hundred.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at the park on Howe Avenue at approximately half past six in the evening after obtaining information of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Shortly after, a follow-up call was made about a potential altercation occurring at Howe Park.
A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but reported no active disturbance. However, it became clear that a massive group had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Deputies worked to disperse the crowd by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems telling the assembled crowd to vacate the area. Roughly 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Deputies at once began searching for victims.
Four People Shot
Ultimately, four victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — consisting of one woman and three men each reported to be in their 20s — were taken to area medical facilities. Medical personnel noted that two victims were in serious condition, one had moderate injuries, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.
Metro Fire Sacramento assisted at the location and helped care for the injured prior to hospital transport.
Crime Scene Evidence
Most of the gunfire was believed to have happened adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor next to the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives identified more spent casings on Cottage Way. Round impacts were discovered in the iron fence near the Home Depot. The physical evidence pointed to that a second shooter had been aiming south from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown as a precaution. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Reports confirmed over scanner radio traffic revealed that a Kia vehicle had been detained in nearby Solano County. Four suspects were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees check here for formal questioning. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
